Flexhouse by Evolution Design

Swiss architecture and design studio Evolution Design, unveils its latest project – completed in March 2016, a one-of-a-kind home that complements the property’s stunning 180-degree views of Lake Zurich and the surrounding natural landscape.

Aptly dubbed “Flexhouse”, the four-story home features wide walls of glass and a ribbon-like white facade that winds its way around the building, with over 173 sq meter of floor space. The ground floor features an open plan living room, dining room and kitchen, while the first floor houses two bedrooms and bathrooms. The second floor features a studio with two large terraces, and the basement level on the other hand, boasts an underground garage and utility space.

The Flexhouse has been designed for everyday living and practical and ecological elements have been integrated into the design. The rear wall of the living room functions as a storage and display space; the kitchen grows out of the same wall and in the bedrooms the wall functions as a screen, to separate the bathrooms from the sleeping spaces.

Ecologically, the house meets Switzerland’s Minergie standard with features which includes thermally-activated concrete floors that connect to a geothermal heat pump to heat the house in winter and cool it in summer. The glass facades are triple glazed and have external blinds for optimal control of heat gain from the sun.
