Without a doubt, the 88th Academy Awards will go down as one of the most controversial. Not only because of the race issue sparked by Jada Smith, or host Chris Rock’s epic opening monologue (which can be watched below), but the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio finally won that golden statue that he long deserved. DiCaprio claimed the Best Actor prize for his sixth ever nomination, for his work on The Revenant.
Thanking The Academy, directors and actors who have helped him across a triumphant career, DiCaprio also used his speech to make a point about climate change and to petition world leaders to take it seriously.
