Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division has taken the wraps off its very first armored vehicle – the Range Rover Sentinel. Hand built at its Oxford Road facility, the Range Rover Sentinel provides the highest levels of protection an SUV can offer against a wide variety of attacks.
Based on the top-spec standard wheelbase Autobiography model, the SUV has received a VR8 level certification which means that it can withstand 7.62mm high-velocity, armor piercing incendiary bullets. The exceptionally rugged car also boasts lateral protection against up to 15 kg TNT blasts, and provides defense against DM51 grenade explosions from above and below the car.
A bespoke six-piece armored passenger cell constructed from high-strength steel and multi-laminated armor privacy glass provide all the protection anyone could ever ask for. In case the main doors are blocked, there’s an emergency escape system located behind the rear seats which allows for a swift exit.
The interior comes with all the luxury features that can be found in the standard model but with a slightly more functional twist. The SUV has certainly put on some weight as a result of the extra armors, but a reworked suspension and heavy-duty, fire-suppressed tires, have made the performance unaffected.
The Range Rover Sentinel is fully approved for sale in the European Union, South America, Africa and the Middle East, and will be available for order later this month for a cool €400,000 EUR which is approximately $446,400 USD.
