BMW Unveils the 2019 Fourth-Generation X5

BMW has taken the wraps off its fourth-generation X5 SUV. Although BMW calls it a SAV, or Sports Activity Vehicle, but for all purposes, the 2019 BMW X5 carries the DNA of a classic mid-sized SUV, now with more focus on off-road capabilities. With more than 2.2 million units sold worldwide since its introduction in 1999, the X5 has become one of BMW’s most successful selling models.

Design-wise, the 2019 X5 features a larger body and bolder look, with its imposing kidney grille, large air intakes, and dominating stance. It also features an optional Laserlight with Adaptive LED Headlights, as well as an optional 22-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle is built on a versatile frame of steel, aluminum, and other components, which provides optimal weight, handling, and protection.

At launch, the all-new 2019 X5 will be available in two engine variants – the X5 xDrive40i which is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine which cranks out 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque, and the X5 xDrive50i which is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which cranks out 456 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

It’s worthy to note that the new X5 has received more attention in regards to off-road capability, as it will be the first in the X series to have an off-road package with two-axle air suspension, front and rear underguards, and a driving mode selector, to tailor the vehicle handling to various terrains.
