McLaren is making a new additon to its “Longtail” lineup with the new McLaren 600LT. This makes the 600LT the fourth vehicle to bear the “Longtail” title in twenty years, and is said to be more powerful and lightweight when compared to the previous three cars.
Under the hood, the McLaren 600LT harbors a 600 PS 3.9-liter twin turbo V8 engine, 592 horsepower and 427 pound-feet of torque. The body was crafted using a great deal of carbon fiber, which explains its light weight build. Other features includes custom Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, new front splitter, side sills, diffuser, fixed rear wing, weight-saving top-exit exhaust pipes, lightweight braking system from the 720s, lightweight carbon fiber seats from the McLaren Senna, and an optional carbon fiber roof and louvers. Sports and Super Series 600LT models will also be produced.
McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt had this to say, “The McLaren 600LT is only the fourth ‘Longtail’ McLaren in more than two decades. The McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ that began the lineage was one of the purest race cars in modern motorsport history. The 675LT resurrected the revered name, creating the purest distillation of the sheer driving pleasure embodied by all McLaren cars.” “Now we are further extending our very special LT family – albeit in limited numbers – and once again showcasing the ethos of optimized aerodynamics, increased power, reduced weight, track-focused dynamics and enhanced driver engagement that are the hallmarks of a McLaren ‘Longtail’.”
Production of the McLaren 600LT will begin in October 2018, with prices starting at £185,500 which includes a “Pure McLaren Road Owner Track Day” at a race circuit with tuition. Check out the McLaren 600LT imagery above, and the promotional video below.
